Lower Ball Joint: Removal

NOTE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.
  1. Remove the wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire . Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Dual Rear Wheels .
  2. Remove and discard the lower ball joint nut.

  3. NOTE: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the ball joint and the wheel knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint seal may result. Only use the pry bar by inserting it into the lower arm body opening.
    NOTE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.

    Separate the lower control arm from the lower ball joint.Use the General Equipment: Two Leg Puller

  5. Remove and discard the 2 lower ball joint bolts.

  6. NOTE: Make sure that the special tools are installed completely. All must be tightened until snug but not over tightened or damage to the tools and/or component may result.

    Install the special tools and while holding the jack screw turn the nut clockwise, remove the ball joint.Use Special Service Tool: 204-069 (T81P-1104-C) Remover/Installer, Front Wheel Hub.
