Front Subframe: Removal

NOTE:
Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.

Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- Make sure the steering wheel is centered in a straight ahead position.

WARNING: Do not reuse steering column shaft bolts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column shaft detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).
Remove and discard the steering column shaft bolt and disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering gear.
- Remove the steering gear shaft boot nuts and remove the steering gear shaft boot.
- Remove the wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire . Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Dual Rear Wheels .
- Remove the front lower air deflector.
- Remove and discard the lower load path bar retainers and remove the lower load path bars.
- On both sides. Remove and discard the nut and position aside the front stablizer bar link rod.
Torque: 103 Nm

NOTE: Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.
On both sides.
- Remove and discard the tie rod end nut.
- Separate the tie rod end from the wheel knuckle.
- On both sides. Remove and discard the lower ball joint nut.

NOTE: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the ball joint and the wheel knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint seal may result. Only use the pry bar by inserting it into the lower arm body opening.NOTE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.
On both sides. Separate the lower control arm from the lower ball joint. Use the General Equipment: Two Leg Puller
- On both sides. Use the General Equipment: Lower Arm Down Force Lever

- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Detach the retainers and position aside the EPAS wiring harness.
- Position a transmission jack under the transmission crossmember. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
- Remove the LH and RH jack-lift brackets.
- Install the transmission crossmember bolts.
- Remove the transmission jack. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

NOTE: This step is applicable for all vehicles expect Adventure Van.NOTE: Index-mark the subframe for reference during installation.
On both sides.Mark the position of front subframe.

- Position a transmission jack under the front subframe. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

- Remove and discard the front subframe forward nuts.
- Remove and discard the front subframe rearward bolts.
- Remove the front subframe assembly. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
Remove and discard the stabilizer bar bracket bolts and remove the stabilizer bar.

- Detach the wiring retainers.
- Remove and discard the steering gear mounting bolts and remove the steering gear assembly.
- On both sides.Remove and discard the bolt and remove the lower arm.
