Front Subframe: Installation

NOTE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.

All vehicles 

  1. WARNING: Make sure that new bolts are installed.
    NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    On both sides. Install the lower arm and the new bolt.

    Torque: 375 Nm

    1. Install the steering gear and the new steering gear mounting bolts.

      Torque: 175 Nm

    2. Attach the wiring retainers.

  2. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Install the stabilizer bar and the new stabilizer bar bracket bolts.

    Torque: 63 Nm

  3. Partially raise the subframe and position it to the vehicle. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

  4. NOTE: This step is applicable for all vehicles expect Adventure Van.

    1. Install the new rearward front subframe bolts.
    2. Install the new forward front subframe bolts.

  5. On both sides.Position the stabilizer bar links and install the new stabilizer bar link lower nut.

  6. NOTE: This step is

    On both sides.Align the index marks made during removal.

    All vehicles 

    1. Tighten the new rearward front subframe bolts.

      Torque: Stage 1: 250 Nm

      Stage 2: 180deg

    2. Tighten the new forward front subframe bolts.

      Torque: 175 Nm

  8. Position a transmission jack under the transmission crossmember. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

  9. Remove and discard the transmission crossmember bolts.

  10. NOTE: Make sure that new bolts are installed.

    Install the LH and RH jack-lift brackets.

    Torque: 200 Nm

  11. Measure the distance between the rearward of the front subframe and edge of the transmission support crossmember. The measured length will be the 217mm.

    1. Position the EPAS wiring harness and attach the retainers
    2. Connect the electrical connectors.

  12. NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the lower ball joint stud from turning while installing the lower ball joint nut.

    Connect the lower control arm and install the new lower ball joint nut.

    Torque: 215 Nm

    1. Attach the tie rod to the wheel knuckle.
    2. Install the new tie rod nut.

      Torque: 115 Nm

  13. Install the lower load path bar and the retainers.

    Torque 1: 55 Nm

    Torque 2: 25 Nm

  14. Install the front lower air deflector.

    Torque 1: 5 Nm

    Torque 2: 5 Nm

  15. Install the wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire . Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Dual Rear Wheels .
  16. Install the steering gear shaft boot and the nuts.

    Torque: 7 Nm

  17. WARNING: Do not reuse steering column shaft bolts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column shaft detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).

    Position the steering shaft coupler and install the new steering shaft coupler bolt.

  18. Check and if necessary, adjust front toe. Refer to: Front Toe Adjustment .
