Fuel System Pressure Release

Pressure release 

WARNING: Fuel may remain pressurized in some fuel lines after the Fuel System Pressure Release procedure. Wear safety gloves and a face shield when disconnecting pressure lines to avoid skin and eye contact. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
  1. Remove the retainers.

    1. Remove the nuts.

      Torque: 55 lb.in (6.2 Nm)

    2. Remove the screw and the air deflector.

      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

  2. Disconnect the Fuel Pump Control Module electrical connector.

  3. Start the engine and allow it to idle until it stalls.
  4. After the engine stalls, crank the engine for approximately 5 seconds to make sure the fuel rail pressure has been released.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  6. Disconnect battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  7. When the fuel system service is complete, reconnect the Fuel Pump Control Module electrical connector.

  8. Install the retainers.

    1. Tighten the nuts.

      Torque: 55 lb.in (6.2 Nm)

    2. Tighten the screw and install the air deflector.

      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

  9. Reconnect battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  10. Cycle the ignition key and wait 3 seconds to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks before starting the engine.
  11. When service on the high pressure fuel system (high pressure pump, fuel injectors and fuel rail) is completed, start the engine and check for leaks.
