Pinpoint Test T: P0A3C:94

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    Refer to Electric Powertrain Control - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    SOBDMC P0A3C:94 Drive Motor "A" Inverter Over Temperature: Unexpected Operation This DTC sets when the module senses an elevated internal temperature

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Electric powertrain cooling concern
    • Temperature sensor
    • Inverter System Controller (ISC)

  2. T1 CHECK THE COOLING FAN OPERATION

    NOTE: Verify cooling fan operation before proceeding with this test

    • Verify the cooling fan operates.

    Does the cooling fan operate? 

    Yes  GO to  T2
    No  Refer to Electric Powertrain Cooling - Overview .
  3. T2 CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL

    • Inspect the coolant.

    Is the coolant at the correct level? 

    Yes  GO to  T3
    No  Refer to Cooling System Filling and Bleeding .
  4. T3 INSPECT THE COOLANT FOR CONTAMINATION

    • Inspect the coolant.

    Is the coolant contaminated? 

    Yes  Refer to Cooling System Filling and Bleeding .
    No  GO to  T4
  5. T4 INSPECT THE RADIATOR

    • Inspect the radiator for any obstruction.

    Is the radiator obstructed? 

    Yes  REPAIR as necessary.
    No  GO to  T5
  6. T5 INSPECT THE MOTOR ELECTRONICS COOLING SYSTEM HOSES

    • Inspect the motor electronics cooling system hoses.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes  REPAIR as necessary.
    No  GO to  T6
  7. T6 INSPECT FOR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COOLANT LEAKS

    • Inspect the coolant system for leaks.

    Are any leaks present? 

    Yes  REPAIR as necessary.
    No  GO to  T7
  8. T7 PERFORM THE BECM (BATTERY ENERGY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BECM self-test.

    Are any cooling system DTCs reported? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the BECMDTCs.
    No  GO to  T8
  9. T8 CHECK FOR INVERTER SYSTEM CONTROLLER (ISC) TEMPERATURE SENSOR CORRELATION

    • Cold soak the vehicle at ambient temperature for at least 6 hours.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Access the SOBDMC and monitor the G_PHTMP (Deg C) PID

    • Road test the vehicle while monitoring the PID.

    Does the temperature PID indicate greater than 115deg.C (239deg.F)? 

    Yes  Refer to Electric Powertrain Cooling .
    No  GO to  T9
  10. T9 CHECK FOR CORRECT INVERTER SYSTEM CONTROLLER (ISC) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all Inverter System Controller (ISC) connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the Inverter System Controller (ISC) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Clear the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, run the Inverter System Controller (ISC) self-test.

    Is DTC P0A3C present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new Inverter System Controller (ISC). Refer to Inverter System Controller [SOBDMC]  .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
