Wheel Hubs and Bearings

The wheel hubs and rear differential come in SRW (Single Rear Wheel), SRW Jumbo, DRW (Dual Rear Wheel) and DRW 5 Ton versions. The hubs are similar with minor differences. SRW has 5 wheel studs and 5 axle shaft bolts. SRW Jumbo has 6 wheel studs with a DRW hub, spindle and axle shaft. DRW has 6 wheel studs and 6 axle shaft bolts. The DRW 5 Ton has increased track width with a (DIH) Drum In Hat style parking brake.

Wheel hubs and bearings consist of:

removable rotor from hub on all vehicles.
cartridge-type hub seal.
two opposed taper roller bearings supporting the hub.
ratcheting nut tabbed to a slot on the spindle.
wheel speed sensor ring pressed on the hub.

The full-floating rear axle features disc brakes. The disc brake calipers must be removed to remove the rotors and hubs. The axle shafts need to be removed to remove the brake disc. Removal of the wheel hubs is not necessary to remove the brake rotors.

Both DRW and SRW hubs feature a cartridge-type seal that must be installed new any time the hub is removed.

The rear hub is supported or floats on the axle spindle on 2 opposed tapered roller bearings. It is retained on the spindle by a ratcheting nut.
