Pinpoint Test S: DTC P073F

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The PCM monitors clutch applications for all gears. It sets a DTC if it detects reverse engagement while a forward gear is selected.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    PCM P073F:00 Unable to Engage Gear 1: No Sub Type Information The PCM detected reverse gear engagement 3 times while a forward gear is selected. The PCM was unable to isolate the fault to a specific clutch. The logic triggers a temporary neutral command each time the fault occurs. The DTC self clears after 40 warm up cycles have been completed without detecting the fault again.

    Possible Sources 

    • Transmission fluid contamination
    • A solenoid or A clutch stuck off or slipping
    • B solenoid or B clutch stuck on or damaged
    • Hydraulic selectable one-way clutch (SOWC) damaged

  2. S1 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the DTC for the PCM.

    • Road test the vehicle.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the PCM self-test.

    Is DTC P0731 present in the PCM? 

    Yes  REFER to: A Clutch . REFER to: B Clutch . REFER to: Hydraulic Selectable One-Way Clutch Assembly .
    No  The fault is not present at this time and may be intermittent.
