- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The PCM monitors transmission temperature and if it exceeds normal operating temperatures it sets a DTC. It may even limit powertrain torque to prevent damage to the transmission.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition PCM P1783:00 Transmission Overtemperature Condition: No Sub Type Information Sets in continuous memory and during the on-demand self-test when the PCM detects an transmission overheating concern and may limit torque to prevent critical transmission overheating. The DTC P0218 may set in conjunction with DTC P1783. Possible Sources
- Transmission overheating concern
- AD1 RECHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for the PCM.
- Road test the vehicle.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the PCM self-test.
Is diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P1783 still present?
Yes If any TFT sensor circuit diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are present, resolve those first. If only DTC P1783 returns, REFER to: Transmission Cooling . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to an extreme driving condition.
