PSCM Circuit Information
Refer to Power Steering Controls wiring diagrams for schematic and connector information.
Refer to Steering GSB for additional connector and wiring inspection tips.
- BF1: VERIFY STEERING TYPE
- This pinpoint test is applicable to EPAS vehicles only. It DOES NOT apply to HPAS vehicles equipped with an electric steering actuator.
- Inspect the vehicle and determine if the steering system is EPAS or HPAS with an electric steering actuator.
- The presence of a power steering pump, hydraulic hoses or tubes indicates a HPAS system.
- Is this vehicle equipped with EPAS?
Yes No Go to BF2. GO to PINPOINT TEST CC . - BF2: CHECK THE PSCM AND ABS MODULE SOFTWARE NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration can be incorrectly set during the PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.
- Check the vehicle service history for recent service actions related to the PSCM or the ABS module. If recent service history is found:
- Verify the correct replacement module was installed. HVBOM may be used to verify correct part fitment.
- Verify the configuration of replacement module was correct. Re-configure the module using as-built data if prior configuration is suspect.
- Verify the module was not obtained from a like vehicle and installed into customer vehicle. Return the swapped module to source vehicle and obtain new replacement module.
- Is the module software up to date?
- Check the vehicle service history for recent service actions related to the PSCM or the ABS module. If recent service history is found:
- BF3: CHECK FOR PSCM DTCS C1B00:54 AND C1B00:95
- Ignition ON, engine running.
Carry out the PSCM self-test.
- Is DTC C1 B00:54 or C1 B00:95 currently present and active in the PSCM?
Yes No GO to PINPOINT TEST P . For all other PSCM C1 B00:xx DTCs, Go to BF4.
If there are no C1B00:XX DTCs currently present and active in the PSCM,
DISCONTINUE this pinpoint test and REFER to the PSCM DTC Chart for direction. - Ignition ON, engine running.
- BF4: INSPECT THE EPAS WIRING HARNESS AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS
- Ignition OFF.
- Using a good light source, thoroughly inspect the EPAS column wire harness for:
- cut wires
- pinched wires
- broken wires
- corrosion
- PSCM_A connector disconnected. (C225A)
- PSCM_B connector disconnected. (C225B)
- Using a good light source, inspect all disconnected electrical connectors for the following:
- corrosion
- damaged or bent pins
- pushed-out pins
- spread terminals
- Are the wire harness and the above electrical connectors in good condition?
- BF5: CHECK THE PSCM FOR RETURNING DTCS
- PSCM_A connector connected. (C225A) Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
- PSCM_B connector connected. (C225B) Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
- Ignition ON, engine OFF.
- Clear the PSCM DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Wait at least one minute.
- Ignition ON, engine running.
Carry out the PSCM self-test.
- Is DTC C1 B00:xx present in the PSCM?
Yes No INSTALL a new EPAS steering column.
REFER to the Steering Column article.
ORDER a replacement EPAS column and INCLUDE the RVC on the order form.
If this is a Ford paid repair, INCLUDE the RVC on the warranty claim form.The condition causing the DTC is not present at this time and may have been caused by a loose or corroded electrical connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - BF6: DETERMINE DIAGNOSTIC DIRECTION
- Review the PSCM self-test results from the previous step.
- Was DTC C1 B00:49 present in the PSCM?
Yes No Go to BF7. For PSCM DTC C1B00:62, Go to BF8. For all others,
REFER to the PSCM DTC Chart. - BF7: CHECK THE PSCM FOR RETURNING DTC C1B00:49 NOTE: To clear DTC C1 B00:49, the vehicle must be driven straight ahead for 30 seconds at speeds greater than 50 km/h (30 mph).
- PSCM_A connector connected. (C225A) Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
- PSCM_B connector connected. (C225B) Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
- Ignition ON, engine OFF.
- Clear the PSCM DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Wait at least one minute.
- Ignition ON, engine running.
- Turn the steering wheel through the full range of motion (lock-to-lock).
- Drive the vehicle for at least 3 minutes, with straight driving above 50 km/h (30 mph) for at least 30 seconds.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON, engine OFF.
Carry out the PSCM self-test.
- Is DTC C1 B00:49 present in the PSCM?
Yes No INSTALL a new EPAS steering column.
REFER to the Steering Column article.
ORDER a replacement EPAS column and INCLUDE the RVC on the order form.
If this is a Ford paid repair, INCLUDE the RVC on the warranty claim form.The condition causing the DTC is not present at this time and may have been caused by a loose or corroded electrical connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
The condition causing the DTC to set may be due to a disconnected or discharged battery, a PSCM or ABS module re-flash or module configuration, or loss of ABS communication to the PSCM. - BF8: CHECK THE PSCM FOR RETURNING DTC C1B00:62
- PSCM_A connector connected. (C225A) Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
- PSCM_B connector connected. (C225B) Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
- Ignition ON, engine OFF.
- Clear the PSCM DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Wait at least one minute.
- Ignition ON, engine running.
- Turn the steering wheel through the full range of motion (lock-to-lock).
- Drive the vehicle for at least 3 minutes, with straight driving above 50 km/h (30 mph) for at least 30 seconds.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON, engine OFF.
Carry out the PSCM self-test.
- Is DTC C1 B00:62 present in the PSCM?
Yes No VERIFY the correct steering gear is installed on the vehicle.
VERIFY the alignment is correct, REFER to the Suspension System - General Information article.
VERIFY the steering gear is installed correctly on the vehicle.The condition causing the DTC is not present at this time and may have been caused by a loose or corroded electrical connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
The condition causing the DTC to set may be due to a disconnected or discharged battery, a PSCM or ABS module re-flash or module configuration, or loss of ABS communication to the PSCM.
