Condenser - 2.0L Duratec-HE (110kW/150PS) - MI4: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this article, refer to health and safety warnings in General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

    Refer to: Climate Control System Health and Safety Precautions .

  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging .
  3. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
  4. Remove the front bumper cover. Refer to: Front Bumper Cover .
  5. Remove the A/C compressor outlet line nut, the thermostatic expansion valve manifold and tube assembly nut and disconnect the fittings.

    Torque: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

  6. Release the retainers and remove the radiator sight shield.

  7. Remove the retainers and remove the air cleaner inlet tube.

  9. Remove the bolt and remove the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  10. Remove the bolts and the engine underbody shield.

  11. Remove the bolts, screws and retainers and the radiator undershield.

  12. Disconnect the clip and position aside the coolant hoses.

  13. On both sides. Remove the bolts and remove the front side member.

    Torque: 1: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm) 2: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  14. Remove the bolt and the wiring harness retainers.

    Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

  15. On both sides. Remove the bolts.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  16. NOTE: Make sure that no strain is placed on the refrigerant lines.

    Remove the front cross member.

  17. NOTE: Make sure that no strain is placed on the refrigerant lines.

    Remove the lower foam strip.

    Using a transmission jack, lower the radiator assembly. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

  19. NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.

    Remove the upper foam strip.

  20. NOTE: Make sure that the component is correctly installed.

    Detach the transmission fluid cooler.

    1. Remove the condenser bracket bolt.
    2. Release the tabs and lift the condenser up off the hooks. Remove the condenser.
