- Lubricate the torque converter pilot hub with Multi-Purpose Grease.

NOTE: If the transmission is not positioned on the dowel pins, damage to the transmission may occur.
If the dowel pins were pulled out of the engine block during removal, install new dowel pins in the engine block.
- Position the transmission behind the engine and remove the special tool. Remove Special Service Tool: 307-566 Retainer, Torque Converter.

NOTE: Make sure that the installation marks are aligned.
Align the torque converter stud marked during removal with the flexplate.

NOTE: Make sure that the component is correctly located on the locating dowels.NOTE: Make sure that no part of the wiring harness is trapped.NOTE: Make sure that no components catch.
Using the transmission jack, rise the transmission.
- Position back the ground cable and install the bellhousing bolts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Tighten the bellhousing bolts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Tighten the bellhousing bolt.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that new nuts are installed.NOTE: Only rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction.
Install the 4 new torque converter nuts. Use the General Equipment: Magnetic Socket
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- Install the starter motor insulator.
- Install the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
- Install the transmission support insulator bracket and the bolts.
Torque: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm)
- Install the transmission support insulator.
- Raise the transmission until the transmission support insulator bracket reaches the transmission support insulator.

NOTE: Make sure a new bolt is installed.
Tighten the upper transmission support insulator bolt.
Torque: 109 lb.ft (148 Nm)
- Install the roll restrictor and bracket and install the bolts.
Torque: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that new bolts are installed.
Install the roll restrictor bolts.
Torque: 92 lb.ft (125 Nm)
- Install the catalytic converter bracket and the nuts.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Install the LH halfshaft. Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH .
- Install the support bar and the bolts.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Install the support bar and the bolts.
Torque: 124 lb.in (14 Nm)
- Position the LH fender splash shield and install the retainers.
- Inspect the RH halfshaft hub surfaces for wear or damage and install a new halfshaft, if necessary.

NOTE: If the transmission has been replaced or overhauled, the halfshaft seals do not need to be replaced.
Install a new RH halfshaft seal. Refer to: Halfshaft Seal RH .

NOTE: Remove the seal protector before completely installing the halfshaft.
Install the seal protector in the RH halfshaft seal. Install the RH halfshaft in the transmission and remove the seal protector before the halfshaft is fully installed.
- Push the RH halfshaft into the differential until the bearing lines up with the bearing bracket.
- Install the new halfshaft bearing retaining strap and new nuts.
Torque: Stage 1: 44 lb.in (5 Nm) | Stage 2: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Install the ball joint into the knuckle and install a new bolt and nut.
Torque: 61 lb.ft (83 Nm)
- Position the RH brake hose back and install a new brake hose bolt.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Connect the RH tie rod end to the knuckle and install the new nut.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the front wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
- Position the ground cable and install the upper bellhousing bolts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Inspect the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler tube backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary.
- Lubricate the transmission fluid cooler outlet tube band seals (7D285).
Material
: Motorcraft® MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (WSS-M2C938-A) (MERCON® LV,)
- Lubricate the transmission fluid cooler outlet tube backing ring (7J324).
- Lubricate the transmission fluid cooler outlet tube band seals (7D285).
- Position back the transmission fluid cooler tubes, bypass valve, nuts and bolts.
Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
- Position back the wiring harness and install the wiring harness retainer bracket nut.
- Install the wiring harness bracket, nuts and the wiring harness retainers.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Install the wiring harness retainers and connect the transmission and TSS connectors.
- Position back the coolant hose and install the nut.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Position the selector lever cable, install the bolts and attach the selector lever cable end to the manual lever.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Install the battery tray support bracket.
- Install the battery tray support bracket and install the nuts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Attach the wiring harness retainers.
- Install the battery tray support bracket and install the nuts.
- Install the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray - 2.5L Duratec (125kW/170PS) .
- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to: SELECTOR LEVER CABLE ADJUSTMENT - 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 6F35 .
- Fill the transmission fluid. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill .
- After completing the repairs perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure.

NOTE: If a new solenoid body is installed, the solenoid body strategy must be updated.
If a new transmission or a new main control was installed, the solenoid body strategy must be updated. Refer to: Transmission Strategy Download .
