Front Halfshaft LH: Installation

  1. Clean and inspect the inner halfshaft splines and mating surfaces.

  3. NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.

    Install a new halfshaft retaining circlip.

  4. Replace the LH halfshaft seal. Refer to: Halfshaft Seal LH .
  5. Rotate the steering wheel fully to the RH side.

  6. NOTE: Make sure that the strut is not moved more than necessary to prevent damage to top mount.
    NOTE: The inner constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 18 deg..
    NOTE: The outer constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 45 deg..
    NOTE: Do not fully install shaft at this time.

    Using the seal protector, insert the splines of the halfshaft through the halfshaft seal. Remove the seal protector.

  7. NOTE: Insert shaft until circlip is fully seated. When checking if circlip is seated do not pull on the outer CV joint or damage can result.

    Remove the seal protector and fully insert the halfshaft until the circlip is seated.

  8. Using special tools, install the RH halfshaft into the wheel bearing and hub. Use Special Service Tool: 204-161 (T97P-1175-A) Installer, Halfshaft.

    Torque: 33 lb.ft (45 Nm)

  9. NOTE: Make sure a new nut is installed.

    Insert the lower ball joint into the wheel knuckle and install a new lower ball joint bolt and nut.

    Torque: 61 lb.ft (83 Nm)

  10. Install the new flexible brake hose bolt.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  11. If equipped, Install the underbody shield and the retainers.

  12. NOTE: Do not tighten the front wheel hub nut with the vehicle on the ground. The nut must be tightened to specification before the vehicle is lowered onto the wheels. Wheel bearing damage will occur if the wheel bearing is loaded with the weight of the vehicle applied.
    NOTE: Install and tighten the new wheel hub nut to specification in a continuous rotation. Always install a new wheel hub nut after loosening or when not tightened to specification in a continuous rotation or damage to the components may occur.

    Install the wheel hub nut.

    Torque:Stage 1: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)Stage 2: 90 deg.

  13. Install the wheel and tire. Refer to: WHEELS AND TIRES .
  14. Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to: TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL CHECK
