Cooler Bypass Valve: Removal

  1. Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray - 2.5L Duratec (125kW/170PS) .
    • Loosen the clamp and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.

  2. NOTE: Use suitable paper to absorb any escaping fluid.

    1. Remove the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler outlet tube bolt. Loosen the nut and remove the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler outlet tube.
    2. Remove the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler inlet tube bolt. Loosen the nut and remove the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler inlet tube.

  3. NOTE: Make sure that no component falls off during removal.

    Remove the band seals and backing rings from the transmission fluid cooler.

    1. Loosen the nut and remove the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler outlet tube.
    2. Loosen the nut and remove the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler inlet tube.

    • Remove the bolt and the transmission fluid thermal bypass valve.

    • Remove the bolt and the transmission fluid thermal bypass valve mounting bracket.
