Tie Rod End: Removal

NOTE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE: F-250/F-350 RWD shown in illustration, other applications similar.
  1. Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Single Rear Wheels . Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Dual Rear Wheels .
    1. Remove and discard the tie rod end cotter pin.
    2. Remove the tie rod end nut retainer.

  2. Remove the tie rod end nut.

    Torque: 85 lb.ft (115 Nm)

  3. Separate the tie-rod end from the wheel spindle assembly.

    Use Special Service Tool: 211-003 (T64P-3590-F) Remover, Steering Arm.

  4. Loosen the tie rod adjuster sleeve nut.

    Torque: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm)

  5. NOTE: Count and record the number of turns required to remove the outer tie-rod end for reference during installation.

    Remove the tie rod end.
