Tie Rod - F-250 F-350: Removal

NOTE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Position the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Loosen the tie rod adjuster sleeve nut.

    Torque: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm)

    1. Loosen the tie rod adjuster alignment rod nut.

      Torque: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

    2. Slide the tie rod adjuster alignment rod away from the adjuster sleeve clamp.

    1. Remove and discard the tie rod cotter pin.
    2. Remove the tie rod nut retainer.

  3. Remove the tie rod nut.

    Torque: 85 lb.ft (115 Nm)

  4. Separate the tie rod from the sector shaft arm drag link.

    Use Special Service Tool: 211-003 (T64P-3590-F) Remover, Steering Arm.

  5. NOTE: Count and record the number of turns during removal for reference during installation.

    Remove the tie rod.
