Side Airbag: Removal

WARNING:
The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps required for correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
WARNING:
Seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with seat side airbags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side airbag deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

- Remove the front seat. Refer to: Front Seat .
- Detach the front seat electrical connector retainers and position the front seat wiring harnesses aside.
- Detach the front seat backrest cover straps and position the front seat backrest cover aside.
- Detach the front seat backrest cover lower J-clips.

NOTE: To install, gradually alternate the left and right front seat backrest cover zippers to prevent damage to the front seat backrest cover.
- Unzip the front seat backrest cover.
- Lift the front seat backrest cover back flap.
- Detach the front seat backrest cover retainer from the front seat backrest frame.
- Remove the side airbag nuts.
Torque: 55 lb.in (6.2 Nm)

- Detach the side airbag studs from the front seat backrest frame and position the side airbag out of the front seat backrest foam pocket.
- Disengage the side airbag electrical connector locking wedge.
- Disconnect the side airbag electrical connector.

Remove the side airbag from out of the front seat backrest cover deployment chute.
