Occupant Classification System (OCS) Sensor - Vehicles With: Multi-Contour Seats: Removal

WARNING: The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps required for correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

NOTE: To prevent system failure, carry out the OCS (occupant classification system) reset when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new trim cover or heater mat is installed or an OCS (occupant classification system) service kit is installed. Use a diagnostic scan tool to carry out the OCS (occupant classification system) reset command.

NOTE: The front seat cushion adjuster on a front outboard passenger seat is not serviced separately. If a new front seat cushion adjuster is needed on the front passenger seat, install an OCS (occupant classification system) service kit equipped with a front seat cushion adjuster. Failure to follow this instruction may result in incorrect operation of the OCS (occupant classification system).

NOTE: The OCS (occupant classification system) components (seat cushion foam, OCS (occupant classification system) bladder with OCSM (occupant classification system module) and front seat cushion adjuster) are calibrated to each other and serviced as an assembly. The OCS (occupant classification system) service kit components are not to be installed separately. If a new OCS (occupant classification system) or OCS (occupant classification system) components are needed, a new OCS (occupant classification system) service kit must be installed. A new passenger seat cushion cover and the heater mat can be installed separately.

All seats

WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this article, refer to health and safety warnings in General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

Raise the seat to its highest point of travel.

Remove the front passenger seat. Refer to: Front Seat .
Remove the side shield screws.

1. Lift the rear of the front seat side shield and pull outward.
2. Push the front seat side shield forward.
3. Disconnect the front seat electrical connector and remove the side shield.

Separate the SCMH from the front seat cushion.
1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. Detach the wiring harness retainer.
3. Detach the SCMH.
4. Compress/squeeze the hose end fitting.
5. Disconnect the hose.

Detach the front seat electrical connector retainers and position the front seat wiring harnesses aside.

Bend the bracket tab and remove the OCSM from the bracket. Use the General Equipment: Flat Headed Screw Driver

Disconnect the front seat cushion heater mat electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainer.

1. Detach the front seat cushion cover J-clip.
2. On both sides. Detach the front seat cushion cover corner J-clips.
3. Detach the front seat cushion cover side J-clip.
4. Release the front seat cushion cover strap from around the front seatbelt buckle.

NOTE: When equipped with an OCS (occupant classification system) service kit, the OCS (occupant classification system) is adhered to the bottom of the front seat cushion foam. This requires the front seat cushion cover, front seat foam, front seat cushion adjuster and OCS (occupant classification system) to be positioned aside as an assembly.

Lift the front seat cushion foam. If the front seat cushion foam, front seat cushion adjuster and OCS are adhered together, then the OCS is a service kit. If nothing is adhered together, then the OCS is OE (original equipment).

Remove the front seat cushion cover and foam as an assembly while routing out the front seat cushion heater mat wiring pigtail out from between the front seat track and the front seat backrest.

- Route out the OCS hose and sensor, and the front seat cushion adjuster hoses and SCMH from between the front seat cushion support wires and remove them.

1. Remove the front seat cushion adjuster pin-type retainers.
2. Lift the front of the front seat cushion adjuster assembly to access the OCS pin-type retainers.

Invert the rear portion of the front seat cushion cover from the front seat foam.

Remove the front seat cushion cover.
1. Invert the front seat cushion cover.
2. NOTE: Use care when separating the front seat cushion cover from the hook-and-loop strips, or the hook-and-loop strips can be torn from the front seat cushion foam.
  
  Release the outer hook-and-loop strips.
3. NOTE: Use care when separating the front seat cushion cover from the hook-and-arrows, or the hooks can be torn from the front seat cushion foam.
  
  Release the hook-and-arrows.
4. NOTE: Use care when separating the front seat cushion cover from the hook-and-loop strips, or the hook-and-loop strips can be torn from the front seat cushion foam.
  
  Release the inner hook-and-loop strips.
