Pinpoint Test D: U0140:00

  1. Refer to CHARGING SYSTEM for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    WACM U0140:00 Lost Communication With Body Control Module: No Sub Type Information Sets in continuous memory in the WACM if data messages received from the BCM are missing for 5 seconds or longer.

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • WACM
    • BCM

  2. NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  3. D1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

    NOTE: Every effort should be made to not trigger a key search by opening a door, stepping on the brake pedal. The triggering of a key search temporarily disables the WACM by design to avoid interference between the BCM and Key fob. This can cause confusion and the unnecessary replacement of perfectly good modules. While no key searches are being conducted while running the test results in no DTCs. This needs to be understood for the true DTCs setting and symptoms to be diagnosed.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Verify there is an observable symptom present.

    Is there an observable symptom present? 

    Yes  GO to  D2
    No  CLEAR the DTC. The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  4. D2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.

    Does the WACM pass the network test? 

    Yes  GO to  D3
    No  DIAGNOSE the WACM does not communicate with the diagnostic scan tool. REFER to: Wireless Accessory Charging Module (WACM) .
  5. D3 PERFORM THE WACM (WIRELESS ACCESSORY CHARGING MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the WACM self-test.

    Are any non-network Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: WACM in Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart .
    No  GO to  D4
  6. D4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DTCS (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

    Are any DTCS (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded? 

    Yes 
    No  GO to  D5
  7. D5 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any non-network DTCS (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present? 

    Yes  REFER to the appropriate DTC Chart .
    No  GO to  D6
  8. D6 RECHECK THE WACM (WIRELESS ACCESSORY CHARGING MODULE) DTCS (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the WACM DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Wait 10 seconds.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the continuous memory self-test.

    • Check the WACM DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

    Is DTC U0140:00 still present? 

    Yes  GO to  D7
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  9. D7 CHECK FOR OTHER CAUSES OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK CONCERN

    NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the PMI, or the PMI may not have been carried out.

    • CHECK the vehicle service history for recent service actions related to the BCM or WACM. If recent service history is found:

      • verify correct replacement module was installed

        • HVBOM may be used to verify correct part fitment

      • verify the configuration of replacement module was correct

        • re-configure module using as-built data if prior configuration is suspect

      • verify the module was not obtained from a like vehicle and installed into customer vehicle

        • return the swapped module to source vehicle and obtain new replacement module

    • Operate the system and determine if the observable symptom is still present.

    Is the observable symptom still present? 

    Yes  GO to  D8
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been due to incorrect parts replacement procedures or incorrect module configuration.
  10. D8 CHECK FOR CORRECT WACM (WIRELESS ACCESSORY CHARGING MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all the WACM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect all WACM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new WACM. REFER to: Wireless Accessory Charging Module (WACM) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
