Pinpoint Test L: B1B40:08
- NOTE: Before disconnecting the IPMA or any of the parking aid sensors, verify the connectors are properly seated and latched.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition IPMA B1B40:08 Left Front Outer Sensor: Bus Signal/Message Failures A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the IPMA when there is a message failure on the LIN for the LHF outer parking aid sensor. Possible Sources
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- LHF outer parking aid sensor
- IPMA
- L1 CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the IPMA self-test.
- Check the parking aid Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the self-test.
Are Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for multiple front parking aid sensors recorded?
Yes GO to L2 No * For DTC B1B40:08 GO to L3
* For all other IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to the IPMA DTC Chart. - L2 CHECK THE FRONT BUMPER WIRING HARNESS
- Inspect the front bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds or corrosion.
Is the front bumper wiring harness OK?
Yes GO to L3 No REPAIR or INSTALL a new front bumper wiring harness. - L3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SENSOR
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect LHF outer parking aid sensor C1428.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1428-1 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 9 volts?
Yes GO to L4 No REPAIR the circuit. - L4 CHECK FOR GROUND AT THE SENSOR
Is the voltage greater than 9 volts?
Yes GO to L5 No REPAIR the circuit. - L5 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Disconnect IPMA C242A.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1428-2 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the affected circuits. No GO to L6 - L6 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1428-2 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to L7 No REPAIR the circuit. - L7 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO VREF OR SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUITS
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to L8 No REPAIR the affected circuits. - L8 CHECK THE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1428-1 C242A-22 C1428-2 C242A-21 C1428-3 C242A-11
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to L9 No REPAIR the affected circuit. - L9 INSTALL A KNOWN GOOD SENSOR
- Connect IPMA C242A.
- Install a known good sensor for the suspect LHF outer parking aid sensor. REFER to: Front Parking Aid Sensor .
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the self-test.
Is DTC B1B40:08 still present?
Yes GO to L10 No INSTALL a new LHF outer parking aid sensor. REFER to: Front Parking Aid Sensor . - L10 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all IPMA connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the IPMA connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPMA. REFER to: Image Processing Module A (IPMA) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
