Pinpoint Test Z: DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B15ED:14, DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B15ED:15

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition IPMA B15ED:14 Side Obstacle Detector "B": Circuit Short To Ground Or Open An continuous memory DTC that sets in the IPMA if an excessive current draw is detected on the SODR output circuit. IPMA B15ED:15 Side Obstacle Detector "B": Circuit Short To Battery Or Open An continuous memory DTC that sets in the IPMA when an open circuit is detected on the SODR output circuit. Possible Sources
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- SODR
- IPMA
- NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may cause damage to the connector. Use only Rotunda Flex Probes (NUD105-R025D)
- Z1 CHECK THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPMA self-test.
Is DTC B15ED:14 or DTC B15ED:15 present?
Yes For DTC B15ED:14, GO to Z2 For DTC B15ED:15, GO to Z5 No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - Z2 CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE SODR (SIDE OBSTACLE DETECTION CONTROL MODULE RH) DISCONNECTED
- Ignition OFF.
- For Incandescent rear lamps.
- Disconnect: SODR C415B.
- For LED rear lamps.
- Disconnect: SODR C4484.
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

NOTE: DTC B15ED:15 may be present during this step and can be disregarded at this time.
Perform the IPMA self-test.
Is DTC B15ED:14 present?
Yes INSTALL a new SODR. REFER to: Side Obstacle Detection Control Module . No GO to Z3 - Z3 CHECK THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: IPMA C242B.
- For Incandescent rear lamps, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C242B-11 Ground
- For LED rear lamps, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C242B-11 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to Z4 No REPAIR the circuit. After the repair, CLEAR the DTC, CYCLE the ignition, and RUN the IPMA on-demand self-test to re-enable the circuit. - Z4 CHECK IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
- For Incandescent rear lamps, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C242B-11 C242B-2
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to Z7 No REPAIR the circuits. - For Incandescent rear lamps, measure:
- Z5 CHECK FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) B15ED:15 WITH THE SODR (SIDE OBSTACLE DETECTION CONTROL MODULE RH) CIRCUITS JUMPERED TOGETHER
- Ignition OFF.
- For Incandescent rear lamps.
- Disconnect: SODR C415B.
- For LED rear lamps.
- Disconnect: SODR C4484.
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Perform the IPMA self-test.
Is DTC B15ED:14 present?
Yes REMOVE the fused jumper wire. INSTALL a new SODR. REFER to: Side Obstacle Detection Control Module . No REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to Z6 - Z6 CHECK THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) SODR (SIDE OBSTACLE DETECTION CONTROL MODULE RH) CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: IPMA C242B.
- For Incandescent rear lamps, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C242B-11 C415B-1 C242B-2 C415B-2
- For LED rear lamps, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C242B-11 C4484-8 C242B-2 C4484-5
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to Z7 No REPAIR the affected circuit. - Z7 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect IPMA connector.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the IPMA connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
- Operate the system to determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPMA REFER to: Image Processing Module A (IPMA) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
