Transmission Fluid Heat Exchanger Tubes - 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in N, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. If equipped, remove the retainers and splash shield.

  3. Remove the transmission fluid tube secondary latches.

  4. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Using the special tool, disconnect the transmission fluid heat exchanger tubes from the transmission fluid heat exchanger.

    Use Special Service Tool: 307-569 Disconnect Tool TOC Line (1/2).

    1. Disconnect the transmission park manual release cable from the transmission lever.
    2. Remove the stud bolt nut.
    3. Remove and discard the bolt and position aside the cable and bracket.

  5. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove and discard the stud bolt and remove the transmission fluid heat exchanger tubes.

  6. Inspect the transmission to be sure the transmission fluid tube seals and backing rings were removed with the transmission fluid tubes and are not stuck in the transmission. If the transmission fluid tube seals or backing rings are stuck in the transmission, remove the seals and backing rings.
