Transmission Fluid Heat Exchanger: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in N, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. If equipped, remove the retainers and splash shield.

    1. Disconnect the transmission park manual release cable from the transmission lever.
    2. Remove and discard the bolt and position aside the cable and bracket.

    1. Release the harness retainer tab.
    2. Slide the harness retainer off the fluid heat exchanger.

  3. Remove the transmission fluid heat exchanger nuts.

    Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles 

  4. Remove the nut and the park manual release lever.

    All vehicles 

    1. Disconnect the pin-type retainer.
    2. Remove the coolant tube hanger nut and separate the hanger from the stud bolt.

  5. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    1. Clamp the coolant inlet and outlet hoses and disconnect the hoses from the transmission fluid heat exchanger. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s)
    2. Separate the transmission fluid heat exchanger from the transmission case and remove it from the vehicle.
