Valve Cover LH: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

- Remove the oil level indicator.
- Remove the bolts and position the oil level indicator tube aside.
- Disconnect the PCV tube quick connect coupling and position the tube aside. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling
.
- Remove the LH ignition coils. Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug .
- Detach the retainers and position the wiring harness aside.

NOTE: The bolts are part of the valve cover and should not be removed.
Loosen the fasteners in the sequence shown and remove the LH valve cover and gasket.
- Remove and discard the LH valve cover gasket.
- Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.

NOTE: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant. Failure to follow this procedure may cause future oil leakage.
Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material. Use the General Equipment: Plastic Scraper
