Cylinder Head: Assembly

All cylinder heads

NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.

NOTE: Lubricate the camshaft, camshaft journals and camshaft bearing caps with clean engine oil.

NOTE: Do not tighten the bolts.
- Lubricate the camshaft with clean engine oil and install the camshaft.
- Lubricate the camshaft bearing caps with clean engine oil and install the front camshaft bearing cap and then the remaining bearing caps.
- Install the bolts finger-tight.

NOTE: If installing the original valves, make sure the valves are installed in the same position from which they were removed.

NOTE: Lubricate the valve stem with clean engine oil prior to installation.

Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the valve in the cylinder head.

NOTE: Lubricate the valve seal assembly with clean engine oil prior to installation.

Lubricate with clean engine oil and using the special tool, install the valve stem seal. Use Special Service Tool: 303-383 (T91P-6571-A) Installer, Valve Stem Oil Seal.

NOTE: If the components are to be reinstalled, they must be installed in their original locations or engine damage may occur.

Using the special tool, install the valve spring, the valve spring retainer and the valve spring retainer keys. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1039 Compressor, Valve Spring.

Repeat the previous 3 steps for each valve.
NOTE: Remove the front thrust camshaft bearing cap straight upward from the bearing towers, or the bearing cap may be damaged from side loading.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the front camshaft bearing cap and then the remaining bearing caps.
- Remove the camshaft.

LH cylinder head

NOTE: The cylinder head assembly service part does not come with the front oil cover, the bolts or the gasket. It will be necessary to install a new gasket and the original front oil cover and bolts onto the new cylinder head assembly.
If necessary, install a new gasket, the front oil cover and the bolts.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

RH cylinder head
