Removal And Installation: Turbocharger: Removal

NOTE:
The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.
NOTE:
Special attention needs to be given to the sealing ports for the oil feed, the oil drain, and the coolant tubes, on turbocharged engines. The sealing ports must be totally clean and free from O-ring residue, have no damage to the sealing surface and the tubes to ensure that there are no leaks or repeat repairs.
All Vehicles
- Remove the brake vacuum pump. Refer to: Vacuum Pump .
- Remove the turbocharger oil return tube. Refer to: Turbocharger Oil Return Tube .
- Remove the turbocharger oil supply tube. Refer to: Turbocharger Oil Supply Tube .
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe RH. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
- Remove the charge air cooler intake pipe. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .

- Detach the wiring harness retainers from upper turbocharger heat shield.
- Disconnect the turbocharger VNT (variable nozzle turbine) actuator electrical connector.
- Remove the diesel particulate filter. Refer to: Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)

LHD RWD
- Install the transmission support insulator, the crossmember and the bolts finger tight.
LHD 4WD
- Install the transmission support insulator, the crossmember and the bolts finger tight.
All Vehicles
- Remove the high-lift transmission jack. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
- Disconnect the coolant hose quick release coupling. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING
.
- Remove the turbocharger coolant supply tube bolt, then disconnect the turbocharger coolant supply tube from the engine.
- Remove and discard the turbocharger nuts, remove the turbocharger, then position the turbocharger towards the rear, next to the transmission.
- Remove and discard the turbocharger gasket.
- Disconnect and discard the outer half of the turbocharger coolant supply tube from the turbocharger coolant tube manifold.
- Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts, then remove the heat shield.

NOTE: Make note of turbocharger coolant tube manifold orientation to aid in proper installation.
Remove the turbocharger coolant tube manifold bolt, then remove and discard the turbocharger coolant tube manifold.
- Remove and discard the turbocharger to exhaust manifold stud bolts.
- Remove the turbocharger through the front of the right front fender splash shield opening.
