Pinpoint Test AK: Turbocharger Actuator

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Ford F-150. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Regeneration may occur during normal operation. During regeneration, diagnostic procedures may display biased values. If a regeneration occurs during diagnostic procedures, allow the process to complete before continuing diagnostics.
NOTE: Refer to the OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

Refer to the DTC Fault Trigger Conditions.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
PCM P003A:00 Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control "A" Position Exceeded Learning Limit: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the variable geometry turbocharger voltage control high (VGTVCH) circuit or the variable geometry turbocharger voltage control low (VGTVCL) circuit are not within an expected calibrated range for a calibrated length of time.
The presence of this DTC may indicate that the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the IPC message center.
PCM P0047:00 Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control "A" Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the VGTVCH circuit voltage or the VGTVCL circuit voltage is less than a calibrated limit for greater than a calibrated amount of time. This DTC can be set due to a turbocharger actuator concern, a wiring harness concern, or an incorrect connection to the turbocharger actuator.
PCM P0048:00 Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control "A" Circuit High: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detect the VGTVCH circuit voltage or the VGTVCL circuit voltage is greater than a calibrated limit for greater than a calibrated amount of time. This DTC can be set due to a turbocharger actuator concern, a wiring harness concern, or an incorrect connection to the turbocharger actuator.
PCM P2564:00 Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor "A" Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects a variable geometry turbocharger position sensor (VGTP) circuit voltage is less than the expected value.
The presence of this DTC may indicate that the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the IPC message center.
PCM P2565:00 Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor "A" Circuit High: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects a variable geometry turbocharger position (VGTP) sensor circuit voltage is greater than a calibrated limit for a specified amount of time. When the variable geometry turbocharger position (VGTP) is greater than a calibrated threshold, an increment counter advances for that drive cycle. This DTC sets once the increment counter reaches a calibrated limit.
The presence of this DTC may indicate that the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the IPC message center.
PCM P2598:00 Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor "A" Performance - Stuck Low: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) setpoint is less than a specified threshold, the actual variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) position is greater than a specified threshold, and the variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) control limit is less than a specified limit. This DTC sets when the PCM detects a stuck variable geometry turbocharger actuator by detecting a position control deviation that exceeds a calibrated threshold.
The presence of this DTC may indicate that the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the IPC message center.
PCM P259E:00 Turbocharger "A" Boost Control Position At Low Limit: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the variable geometry turbocharger setpoint is less than a specific threshold, the actual variable geometry turbocharger position is greater than a specified threshold, and the variable geometry turbocharger control limit is less than a specified limit.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the IPC message center.
PCM P259F:00 Turbocharger "A" Boost Control Position At High Limit: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the variable geometry turbocharger setpoint is greater than a specific threshold, the actual variable geometry turbocharger position is less than a specified threshold, and the variable geometry turbocharger control limit is greater than a specified limit.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the IPC message center.
