Charge Air Cooler Temperature (CACT) Sensor

The charge air cooler temperature sensor is a thermistor device in which resistance changes with temperature. The electrical resistance of a thermistor decreases as the temperature increases, and resistance increases as the temperature decreases. The varying resistance affects the voltage drop across the sensor terminals and provides electrical voltage signals to the PCM corresponding to temperature.

The charge air cooler temperature sensor is located in the tube between the CAC and the intake throttle assembly. The sensor provides a CAC output temperature signal to the PCM. The PCM uses the charge air cooler temperature sensor signal as an input to control the turbocharger, EGR valve, fuel system and the regeneration function.
