Crankshaft Rear Seal with Retainer Plate: Installation

  1. NOTE: If the rear crankshaft seal retaining plate is not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 4 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure may cause future oil leaks.
    NOTE: The silicone must be applied on the groove along the retainer plate.

    Apply a 3 mm (0.12 in) bead of silicone gasket and sealant around the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate sealing surface.

    Material: Motorcraft ® Silicone Gasket and Sealant / TA-30 (WSE-M4G323-A4)

    • Install the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate and the bolts finger-tight.

    • Tighten the bolts in sequence shown in 2 stages.

      Torque:

      Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

      Stage 2: 30 °

  2. NOTE: Lubricate the crankshaft rear seal with clean engine oil prior to installation.

    Using the special tools, install the new crankshaft rear seal. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle., 303-1250 Seal Installer, Rear Main.

    Material: Motorcraft ® SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-QSP (WSS-M2C946-A)

  3. Install the CKP sensor and the bolt.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  4. Connect the CKP sensor wiring harness electrical connector.

  5. Inspect the ignition pulse ring for damage. If the ignition pulse ring has been dropped or has any visual damage, it must be replaced.

  6. With the inset hole on the crankshaft ignition pulse ring aligned with the inset hole on the crankshaft flange, install the crankshaft ignition pulse ring.

  7. Install the engine-to-transmission spacer plate.

  8. Install the flexplate or flywheel. Refer to: Flexplate . Refer to: Flywheel .
  9. Install the oil pan. Refer to: Oil Pan .
