Pinpoint Test W: Exhaust Gas RECIRCULATION (EGR) System

NOTE: Regeneration may occur during normal operation. During regeneration, diagnostic procedures may display biased values. If a regeneration occurs during diagnostic procedures, allow the process to complete before continuing diagnostics.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
PCM P0401:00 EGR "A" Flow Insufficient Detected: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the pressure ratio of the MAP sensor signal and the exhaust pressure sensor signal across the EGR valve is not as expected. The estimated EGR percent is less than the minimum limit for the operating conditions.
The presence of this DTC may indicate that the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the message center.
PCM P0402:00 EGR "A" Flow Excessive Detected: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects pressure ratio of the MAP sensor signal and the exhaust pressure sensor signal across the EGR valve is not as expected. The estimated EGR percent is greater than the maximum limit for the operating conditions.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the message center.
PCM P0405:00 EGR Sensor "A" Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the EGRVP circuit voltage is less than the expected value.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the message center.
PCM P0406:00 EGR Sensor "A" Circuit High: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the EGRVP circuit voltage is greater than a calibrated limit for a specified amount of time. When the EGRVP is greater than a calibrated threshold, an increment counter advances for that drive cycle.This DTC sets once an increment counter reaches a calibrated limit.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the message center.
PCM P042E:00 EGR "A" Control Stuck Open: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the EGR setpoint is less than a specified threshold, the actual EGR position is greater than a specified threshold, and the EGR control limit is less than a specified limit. A position control deviation that exceeds a calibrated threshold indicates a stuck EGR valve.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the message center.
PCM P0489:00 EGR "A" Control Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects an EGR control circuit concern.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the message center.
PCM P0490:00 EGR "A" Control Circuit High: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects an EGR control circuit concern.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the message center.
PCM P049D:00 EGR "A" Control Position Exceeded Learning Limit: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the EGRVCH circuit or the EGRVCL circuit are not within an expected calibrated range for a calibrate length of time.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the message center.
PCM P04D9:00 Closed Loop EGR Control At Limit - Flow Too Low: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the estimated EGR percent is less than the minimum limit for the operating conditions. The PCM monitors the pressure ratio of the MAP sensor signal and the exhaust pressure sensor signal across the EGR valve.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the message center.
PCM P04DA:00 Closed Loop EGR Control At Limit - Flow Too High: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the estimated EGR percent is greater than the maximum limit for the operating conditions. The PCM monitors the pressure ratio of the MAP sensor signal and the exhaust pressure sensor signal across the EGR valve.
The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the message center.
