Pinpoint Test M: Fuel System
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Ford F-150. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Contact with exposed fuel injector wiring, if energized, may result in electric shock. Use care when working on or around energized fuel injector wiring. Fuel injector wiring supplies high voltage to operate the fuel injectors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING:
Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, relieve the fuel system pressure to prevent accidental spraying of fuel. Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure, even when the engine is not running. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING:
Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures may be present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING:
Do not carry personal electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers or audio equipment of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures may be present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING:
When handling fuel, always observe fuel handling precautions and be prepared in the event of fuel spillage. Spilled fuel may be ignited by hot vehicle components or other ignition sources. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING:
Clean all fuel residue from the engine compartment. If not removed, fuel residue may ignite when the engine is returned to operation. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE:
Regeneration may occur during normal operation. During regeneration, diagnostic procedures may display biased values. If a regeneration occurs during diagnostic procedures, allow the process to complete before continuing diagnostics.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
Refer to the DTC Fault Trigger Conditions.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
| DTC | Description | Fault Trigger Condition |
|---|---|---|
| PCM P0088:00 | Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too High (Bank 1): No Sub Type Information | Sets when the PCM is no longer capable of maintaining the fuel pressure. The PCM regulates the fuel rail pressure by controlling the fuel volume control valve and fuel pressure control valve. The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the IPC message center. This DTC sets when the fuel rail pressure exceeds the maximum calibrated threshold. |
| PCM P0093:00 | Fuel System Leak Detected - Large Leak: No Sub Type Information | Sets when the PCM detects the requested fuel volume control value exceeds a calibrated threshold indicating a large fuel system leak. The fuel pressure in the high pressure fuel system can be monitored by accessing the FRP_A PID on the scan tool. The PCM may disable the low pressure fuel pump causing a no start condition when this DTC sets. |
| PCM P016D:00 | Excessive Time To Enter Closed Loop Fuel Pressure Control: No Sub Type Information | Sets when the PCM is unable to successfully learn the effort required over a substantial period of time. This DTC indicates that some element of the fuel system is operating within plausible tolerances, but with too much variation to get a stable reading. On every engine start with fuel temperature less than 40 deg.C (104 deg.F), the PCM checks the accuracy of the fuel rail pressure sensor by estimating the amount of effort required by the fuel pressure control valve to maintain pressure for a given fuel rail pressure reading. When in fuel pressure control valve operating mode, the system evaluates the control signal required for the fuel pressure control valve and adjusts to the expected value. This DTC sets if the new adjustment value is not learned in a given time. |
| PCM P0191:00 | Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1): No Sub Type Information | Sets when the PCM detects the fuel pressure falls below or exceeds a minimum or maximum calibrated value for a calibrated period of time. The presence of this DTC may indicate the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the IPC message center. Monitor the FRP PID with the ignition ON, engine running. The correct FRP is between 34.47 MPa (5000 psi) and 48.26 MPa (7000 psi). |
