Pinpoint Test Uh: Intake Air Concern

  1. Refer to Wiring Diagrams ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - 3.0L DIESEL for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    Refer to the DTC Fault Trigger Conditions.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    PCM P0219:00 Engine Overspeed Condition: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the vehicle is operated in a manner to cause the engine speed to exceed a calibrated limit.
    This DTC may be accompanied by other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If any other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present, disregard DTC P0219 at this time. Diagnose any other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) first.
    The engine RPM is continuously monitored and evaluated by the PCM.
    If no other symptoms are present, return the vehicle to the owner with information about the DTC.
    PCM P0506:00 Idle Control System - RPM Lower Than Expected: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the engine idle speed is less than the desired engine idle speed or the actual engine idle speed is greater than 100 RPM below the desired RPM for greater than 5 seconds.
    This DTC is informational only and it may be accompanied by other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Diagnose the other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) first. If other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are not present, inspect the entire intake air system for restrictions, vacuum leaks, and damage. Repair as necessary. If no concerns are found, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Repeat the self test.
    PCM P0507:00 Idle Control System - RPM Higher Than Expected: No Sub Type Information Sets when the PCM detects the engine idle speed that is greater than the desired engine idle speed or the actual engine idle speed is greater than 160 RPM above the desired RPM for greater than 5 seconds.
    This DTC is informational only and it may be accompanied by other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Diagnose the other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) first. If other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are not present, inspect the entire intake air system for restrictions, vacuum leaks, and damage. Repair as necessary. If no concerns are found, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Repeat the self test.

    Possible Sources 

    • Excessive engine RPM in NEUTRAL or operated in the incorrect transmission gear
    • Intake air concern
    • Wheel slippage
