Valve Cover LH - Vehicles With: Dual Generators: Removal

NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. Remove the following items:

    1. Air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
    2. Air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .

  2. Follow directions to release the quick release coupling type 3. Remove the crankcase vent tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

    • Remove the oil level indicator.

    • Remove the nuts.

    • Remove the oil level indicator tube.

  3. Inspect the O-ring seal and replace as necessary.

  4. Remove the following items:

    1. Secondary generator. Refer to: Generator - 5.0L 32V Ti-VCT .
    2. LH ignition coil-on-plugs. Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug .

    • Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors.

    • Detach the wiring harness retainers.

  5. Remove the engine front cover bolts.

  6. Loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.

  7. NOTE: Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.

    Remove and discard the gasket.

  8. If necessary, remove the bolts and the crankcase vent oil separator.

  9. NOTE: This step is only necessary if the crankcase vent oil separator was removed.

    1. Inspect the crankcase vent oil separator seals.
    2. Remove and discard any damaged seals using the special tools. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle., 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer.

    1. Inspect the spark plug seals.
    2. Remove and discard any damaged seals using the special tools. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle., 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer.

    1. Inspect the VCT oil control solenoid seal and the cylinder deactivation solenoid seals.
    2. Remove and discard any damaged seals using the special tools. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle., 205-142 (T80T-4000-J) Installer, Differential Bearing Cone.

  10. Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
