Transmission Support Crossmember: Removal

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
If equipped.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the retainers and remove the transmission housing cover.

If equipped. Remove the skid plate bolts and remove the skid plate.
Torque

: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

If equipped. Remove the bolts from the transmission crossmember and position the wiring harness aside.

Remove the LH exhaust heat shield bolt from the transmission crossmember.
Torque

Remove the RH exhaust heat shield bolt from the transmission crossmember.

Remove the RH exhaust heat shield bolt from the transmission crossmember.
Torque

: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

Raptor and 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel
Remove the transmission fluid cooler tubes. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Heat Exchanger Tubes - 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel .
All except 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel
Remove the retainer nuts and heatshield.
Torque

: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

All vehicles
NOTE: Clean the crossmember mounting area with an appropriate cleaner before installing the self-adhesive heat shield.

If equipped. Remove and discard the self-adhesive heat shield material.

NOTE: Make sure the transmission jack makes contact on the outer ribs of the transmission fluid pan.

Using a high-lift transmission jack, support the front of the transmission and the transfer case.

Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
Remove the bolts and position aside the EVAP canister.
Torque

: 124 lb.in (14 Nm)

Remove and discard the transmission support crossmember nuts and bolts.
