Lower Intake Manifold: Removal

NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the port injection fuel rail. Refer to: Port Injection Fuel Rail .
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  4. Remove the bolts and position the thermostat housing aside.

  5. Inspect the O-ring seal and replace if necessary.

  6. Discard the coolant tube O-rings seal.

  7. Disconnect the coolant tube from the lower intake manifold.

  8. Remove the bolts and the lower intake manifold.

    • Visually inspect the lower intake manifold gaskets for nicks, cuts and abrasions. If these conditions are not present, the gaskets may be re-used.

    • Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.
