Cylinder Head LH: Installation
- Install the cylinder head gasket.

NOTE: If the cylinder head is replaced, a new secondary timing chain tensioner will need to be installed.NOTE: Install new cylinder head bolts.
Install the cylinder head and the new bolts.
Torque: Stage 1: 177 lb.in (20 Nm); Stage 2: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm); Stage 3: 90 deg.; Stage 4: 90 deg.; Stage 5: 45 deg.
- Install the M6 bolt.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

NOTE: The valve tappets must be installed in their original positions.
Lubricate the valve tappets with clean engine oil and install.

NOTE: Do not use power tools to install the bolt or damage to the upper LH timing chain guide may occur.
Install the upper LH timing chain guide and the bolt.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

NOTE: Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil.
Install the CMP sensors and the bolts.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

- Connect the CMP sensor electrical connectors and attach the wiring harness retainer.
- Connect and attach the direct injection wiring harness electrical connector.
- Install the ground strap and the nut and attach the retainers.
Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that a new fuel rail to fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube is installed.
- Install the fuel rail to fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube and finger tight the flare nuts.
- Tighten the flare nuts in the following 3 stages.
Torque: Stage 1: 62 lb.in (7 Nm); Stage 2: 89 lb.in (10 Nm); Stage 3: If the torque required to tighten any flare nut on the new high-pressure fuel tube reaches or exceeds 75 Nm (55 lb-ft), the high pressure fuel tube must be discarded and replaced with another new high-pressure fuel tube.: 30 deg.
- Install the following items:
- Install the LH camshafts. Refer to: Camshafts .
- Install the RH fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
- Install the new RH catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- Install the new LH catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

- Position the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe and install the bolts.
- Tighten the inner exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe bolt.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- Tighten the outer exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe bolt.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- Remove the oil pan plug and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
Torque: 19 lb.ft (26 Nm)
- Remove and discard the oil filter. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

- Using brake cleaner, clean the drain trough. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B
- Wipe the drain trough clean.
- Using brake cleaner, clean the drain trough. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

- Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil and install and tighten in 2 stages.
- Stage 1: Install to initial gasket contact.
- Stage 2: Tighten 3/4 to 1 turn.
- If equipped, install the skid plate and the bolts.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

- If equipped, remove the bolts and the skid plate.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- If equipped, install the underbody shield and bolts.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- If equipped, remove the bolts and the skid plate.
- If equipped, install the transmission housing cover and the bolts
Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)
- Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Connect the battery ground. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Pressurize the fuel system. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Start and check the exhaust system for leaks.
- Road test the vehicle.
