Wastegate Control Actuator LH: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Ford F-150. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    1. Push the wastegate control actuator shaft all of the way towards the actuator until it bottoms out.
    2. Install the wastegate control actuator new upper jam nut on all of the way towards the actuator, finger tight.
    3. NOTE: Install the wastegate control actuator with the electrical connector properly orientated as noted during removal.

      Install the wastegate control actuator, then install and tighten the bolts.

      Torque: 40 lb.in (4.5 Nm)

  1. NOTE: Make sure you have the correct orientation as shown, for the question mark upper linkage lever and the lower dog-bone linkage assembly. If reversed, it will bind slightly on the turbocharger housing.

    1. Connect the wastegate control actuator question mark upper linkage lever to the wastegate control actuator. Loosely install the new lower wastegate control actuator jam nut.
    2. Install the new NVH wave washer, connect the dog-bone linkage to the wastegate lever arm, then install the new E-clip.

    1. NOTE: In this step the upper wastegate control actuator jam nut should still be fully loosened, toward the actuator.

      Hold the wastegate control actuator lever arm in the closed position, (rotated toward the wastegate control actuator until it stops).

    2. Hand tighten the bottom wastegate control actuator jam nut so that there is no slack in the system.

    1. Pull the wastegate control actuator shaft, at the wastegate control actuator jam nuts, away from the wastegate control actuator body to put slack into the system.
    2. NOTE: In this step the upper wastegate control actuator jam nut should still be fully loosened toward the actuator.

      Hold the wastegate control actuator lever arm in the closed position, (rotated toward the wastegate control actuator until it stops).

    3. Tighten the lower wastegate control actuator jam nut so that 4 to 5 threads are protruding beyond the lower jam nut.
    4. NOTE: 2 wrenches must be used in this step, failure to do so may damage the wastegate control actuator.

      Hold the lower jam nut in position and tighten the upper jam nut, this will pull the wastegate control actuator shaft and linkage into the correct position.

      Torque: 44 lb.in (5.0 Nm)

    5. Mark the upper wastegate control actuator jam nut with a paint pen (To aid, if further adjustment is needed).

  2. Connect the wastegate control actuator electrical connector.

  3. NOTE: Substantial opening and closing torque is applied by this system. To prevent injury, be careful to keep fingers away from wastegate mechanism when actuated. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

    1. With the KOEO, using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the PCM DTC's and reset the KAM.
    2. With the KOEO, using a diagnostic scan tool, view the PCMPID.
    3. Using a diagnostic scan tool, select the PCMPID WGATE_B_V. Press the accelerator pedal to the floor for 3 seconds and slowly release, record the minimum voltage immediately (within 1 second) after the pedal is fully released. Is the voltage between 1.0-1.2V?

    • No, then go to step 7.

    • Yes, then go to step 8.

  4. NOTE: Substantial opening and closing torque is applied by this system. To prevent injury, be careful to keep fingers away from wastegate mechanism when actuated. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

    1. Note the voltage, then turn the ignition OFF, perform the following adjustment procedure.
    2. Pull the wastegate control actuator shaft, at the wastegate control jam nuts, away from the wastegate control actuator body to put slack in the system.
    3. Loosen the lower jam nut, based on the noted voltage:

      • If noted voltage > 1.2V, then rotate the upper nut away from the actuator body at a rate of 0.75 turns/0.1V to target 1.1V. Example: noted voltage = 1.3V. 1.3V (noted voltage) - 1.1 (target voltage) = 0.2V. So in this case, rotate the upper jam nut 1.5 turns away from the actuator body.

      • If noted voltage is < 1.0V, then rotate the upper jam nut toward the actuator body at a rate of 0.75 turns/0.1V to target 1.1V. Example: noted voltage = 0.9V. 1.1 (target voltage) - 0.9V (noted voltage) = 0.2V. So in this case, rotate the upper jam nut 1.5 turns towards the actuator body.

    4. NOTE: 2 wrenches must be used in this step, failure to do so may damage the wastegate control actuator.

      Hold the upper jam nut and tighten the lower jam nut, this will pull the wastegate control actuator shaft and linkage into the correct position.

      Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    5. Return to step 6 to recheck the voltage.

  5. Mark both of the wastegate control actuator nuts with tamper proof paint.
  6. Install the left front fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
