Coolant Pump: Removal

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
  3. Remove the LH air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH .
  4. Remove the RH air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .
  5. Remove the CAC intake pipe. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .
  6. Remove the CAC outlet pipe. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Outlet Pipe .
  7. Release the clip and disconnect the lower degas bottle hose.

  8. Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose.

  9. Remove the bolts and position the degas bottle aside.

  10. Loosen the coolant pump pulley bolts.

  11. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt - Vehicles With: Dual Generators .
  12. Remove the EGR cooler. Refer to: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Cooler .
    • Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose.

      Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Follow the directions to release quick release coupling type 3. Disconnect the coolant tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  13. Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose.

  14. Release the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses.

  15. Remove the bolts and the coolant pump pulley.

  16. NOTE: Use caution to prevent damaging the coolant inlet pipe grommet.

    Remove the bolts and the coolant pump.

    • Inspect the coolant pump O-ring and replace if necessary.

    • NOTE: The grommet may remain in the coolant pump housing. If this occurs, remove the grommet from the coolant pump housing.

      Remove the grommet from the coolant inlet pipe. Inspect the grommet and replace if necessary.
