Intake Manifold: Removal

NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  2. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .
    2. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH .
    3. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Outlet Pipe .

  3. Follow directions to release the quick release coupling type 3. Remove the crankcase vent tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

    1. Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector.
    2. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor electrical connector.
    3. Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector.
    4. Detach the wiring harness retainers.

    1. Follow directions to release the quick release coupling type 19. Disconnect the fuel vapor tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    2. Follow directions to release the quick release coupling type 1. Disconnect the tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    3. Follow directions to release the quick release coupling type 3. Disconnect the crankcase vent tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

    • Detach the tube retainer.

  4. Detach the wiring harness connector retainers.

    1. Remove the nut.

      Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)

    2. Release the clamps and remove the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor.

    1. Disconnect the ignition coil-on-plug electrical connector.
    2. Detach the wiring harness retainer.
    3. Remove the stud bolt and the ignition coil-on-plug.

      Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)

  5. Remove the EGR tube bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    1. Remove the EGR tube nuts.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors.
    3. Detach the engine wiring harness retainer.

  6. Remove the bolts and the EGR valve assembly.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    • Remove and discard the gasket.

    • Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.

  7. Remove and discard the EGR tube gasket.

    1. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector.
    2. Follow directions to release the quick release coupling type 19. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve vapor tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    3. Remove the EVAP canister purge valve.

    1. Loosen the intake manifold bolts.
    2. Position the intake manifold toward the front of the engine.
    3. Detach the wiring harness retainers from the rear of the intake manifold.

  8. Position the wiring harness aside and remove the intake manifold.

    • Remove and inspect the gaskets, replace as necessary.

    • Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.
