Engine Front Cover: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the engine oil filter and drain the engine oil. Refer to: Engine Oil Draining and Filling .
- Remove the following items:
- Air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .

NOTE: It is not necessary to clamp off the degas bottle hose with the cooling system drained.
Degas bottle. Refer to: Degas Bottle .

- Release the clamp and disconnect the upper radiator hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Release the clamp and remove the radiator to degas bottle hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

- Pull the lower radiator hose spring clip until the end of the clip is in the detent on the quick connect coupling.
- Disconnect the lower radiator hose.
- Remove the following items:
- LH valve cover. Refer to: Valve Cover LH .
- RH valve cover. Refer to: Valve Cover RH .
- Rotate the retaining ring counterclockwise 180 degrees and remove the TC bypass tube.
- Remove the following items:
- Cabin heater coolant pump. Refer to: Cabin Heater Coolant Pump - 2.7L EcoBoost (238kW/324PS) .
- Coolant pump. Refer to: Coolant Pump .

NOTE: It is not necessary to clamp off the oil cooler hoses with the cooling system drained.
Oil cooler. Refer to: Oil Cooler .
- If equipped, secondary generator. Refer to: Generator - 2.7L EcoBoost (238kW/324PS) .
- Accessory drive belt tensioner. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner .
- Remove the bolt and the idler pulley.
- Remove the bolt and the idler pulley.

- Remove the nuts and the EGR tube.
- Discard the gasket.
- Remove the bolt, the nut and position the generator aside.
- Remove the RH fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
- Remove the bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.
- Disconnect the oil control solenoid electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainers.
- Remove the following items:
- Crankshaft front seal. Refer to: Crankshaft Front Seal .
- Oil pan. Refer to: Oil Pan .

NOTE: There are different types of fasteners, note location of each fastener for assembly.
Remove the engine front cover fasteners.
- Using a large flat-bladed screwdriver and the indicated pry pads, release the sealer and remove the engine front cover. Use the General Equipment: Flat-Bladed Screwdriver
- Remove and discard the engine front cover gaskets.
- Remove and discard the oil gallery seal (6G068).
- Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation
