Cylinder Head LH: Installation

  1. Install a new cylinder head gasket.

    • Install the cylinder head.

    • Install new cylinder head bolts.

      Torque:Stage 1: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

      Stage 2: Loosen: 2 turn(s)

      Stage 3: 37 lb.ft (50 Nm)

      Stage 4: 180°

    1. Install the cylinder head to coolant outlet connector hose assembly and the bolt.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    2. Connect the coolant hose and the clamp. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  2. Install the wiring harness grounds, the bolt and the stud bolt.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  3. NOTE: Make sure that a new high-pressure fuel tube is installed.

    1. Calculate the correct torque wrench setting for the following torque using the Torque Wrench Adapter Formulas in the chart below.

    2. NOTE: In stage 3, if the torque required to tighten any flare nut on the new high-pressure fuel tube reaches or exceeds 55 lb.ft (75 Nm), then that high pressure fuel tube must be discarded and replaced with another new high-pressure fuel tube.

      Install the high-pressure fuel tube and tighten the flare nuts finger tight, then tighten the flare nuts in the following 3 stages.

      Torque: Stage 1: Tighten to : 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

      Stage 2: Tighten to : 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

      Stage 3: Tighten an additional : 30°

  4. Install the following items:

    1. Refer to: Turbocharger LH .
    2. Refer to: Camshaft LH .

  5. Install the fuel supply manifold, then install and tighten the retainers.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  6. Connect the fuel supply quick connect couplings, then attach the wire harness retainers. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  7. Connect the quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  8. NOTE: When removing or installing the fuel injection pump noise insulator, spreading the openings will reduce the risk of damage.

    Install the fuel injection pump noise insulator.

  9. Install the high-pressure fuel pump shield, then install and tighten the retainers.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  10. Attach the wiring harness retainers.

  11. Install the intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
  12. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  13. Pressurize the fuel system. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  14. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  15. Use the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Misfire Monitor Profile Correction routine in the diagnostic scan tool.
  16. Start and check the exhaust system for leaks.
  17. Road test the vehicle.
