Overview - Active Park Assist

The active park assist system is a full-assisted parking system. The system assists parking into and out (assist out of parking spots only available for parallel parking) of parking spaces. The active park assist sensors are used to detect parking spaces. The system then steers, accelerates, brakes and shifts gears as required to maneuver into or out of a parking space.

The IPMA uses input from the active park assist sensors, parking aid sensors and a geometrical equation to determine whether the vehicle fits in the parking space. If it is determined the vehicle will fit in the parking space, the IPMA requests the correct steering angles from the PSCM and the correct vehicle speed from the PCM during the parking maneuvers. The system visually and/or audibly instructs the operator to park the vehicle through messages in the centerstack infotainment display and audio system warning chimes.
