Pinpoint Test P: The Airbag Warning Indicator Or RTT (RECONFIGURABLE Telltale) Warning Indicator Is Never Or Always On

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Airbag Warning. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the airbag warning indicator request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the airbag warning indicator or RTT warning indicator to its last indication state (on or off), based upon the last message received.

    If the airbag warning indicator request message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the airbag warning indicator or RTT warning indicator on.

    Possible Sources 

    • Communication concern
    • SRS
    • GWM
    • IPC

  2. P1 IDENTIFY THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) LEVEL

    Is the vehicle is equipped with a 4-inch IPC? 

    Yes  GO to  P3
    No  GO to  P2
  3. P2 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Close all doors and the hood.

    • Clear all message center warnings by pressing the OK button for each warning present.

    • Monitor the door ajar RTT warning indicator.

    • Open the driver door.

    • Clear the message center popup warning.

    • Monitor the door ajar RTT warning indicator.

    Is the door ajar RTT warning indicator off with the door closed, and on with the door open? 

    Yes  GO to  P4
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test A 
  4. P3 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Access the IPC and control the AIRBAG_LMPPID

    • Command the airbag warning indicator on then off.

    Does the airbag warning indicator turn on when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  GO to  P4
    No  GO to  P6
  5. P4 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the IPCDTC Chart.
    No  GO to  P5
  6. P5 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Controller Area Network (CAN) Module Communications Network .
    No  If the airbag warning indicator is never on, the system is operating correctly. If the airbag warning indicator is always on, DIAGNOSE the SRS. REFER to: Airbag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) .
  7. P6 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
