Pinpoint Test BQ: The Trailer Lighting Display Is Inoperative

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Trailer Lighting Display. REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the parklamp status, trailer lamp connected, trailer turn indicator status or trailer lamp out messages are missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the display to the last displayed state based upon the last message received.

    If the parklamp status, trailer lamp connected, trailer turn indicator status or trailer lamp out messages are missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC sets a DTC for the module in question and defaults the associated display element off or blank.

    Possible Sources 

    • Communication concern
    • BCM concern
    • GWM concern
    • TRM concern
    • IPC

  2. BQ1 VERIFY THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) IS SET TO THE TRAILER LIGHTING DISPLAY SCREEN

    • Ignition ON.

    • NOTE: The IPC and message center navigation can be found in the Owner's Literature.

      Using the message center controls, make sure the IPC is set to the trailer lighting display screen.

    Is the IPC set to the trailer lighting display screen? 

    Yes  GO to  BQ2
    No  The trailer lighting display is operating correctly. The IPC was not set to the correct display screen.
  3. BQ2 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    • Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart .
    No  GO to  BQ3
  4. BQ3 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    • Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the Master DTC Chart.
    No  GO to  BQ4
  5. BQ4 PERFORM THE TRM (TRAILER MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the TRM self-test.

    • Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Trailer Lamps .
    No  GO to  BQ5
  6. BQ5 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Controller Area Network (CAN) Module Communications Network .
    No  DIAGNOSE the trailer lighting system. REFER to: Trailer Lamps .
