Pinpoint Test Al: The LH (Left-Hand) - RH (Right-Hand) Turn Signal, Front Fog Lamp, Rear Fog Lamp (If Equipped) Or High Beam Indicator Or RTT (RECONFIGURABLE Telltale) Indicator Is Never Or Always On

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See LH/RH Turn Signal, Front Fog Lamp, Rear Fog Lamp or High Beam. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the left turn lamp on request, right turn lamp on request, front fog lamp indicator request, high beam status or rear fog lamp indicator request (if equipped) message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the specific indicator to its last indication state (on or off), based upon the last message received.

    If the left turn lamp on request, right turn lamp on request, front fog lamp indicator request, high beam status or rear fog lamp indicator request (if equipped) message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the specific indicator off.

    Possible Sources 

    • Turn indicator concern
    • Front fog lamp concern
    • High beam concern
    • Rear fog lamp concern (if equipped)
    • Communication concern
    • BCM
    • GWM
    • IPC

  2. AL1 DETERMINE THE FAULT CONDITION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Check the operation of the turn signals, fog lamps or high beams.

    Do the turn signals, fog lamps or high beams operate correctly? 

    Yes  GO to  AL2
    No  For high beams, REFER to: Headlamps . For turn signals, REFER to: Turn Signal and Hazard Lamps . For front or rear fog lamps, REFER to: Fog Lamps .

  3. AL2 IDENTIFY THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) LEVEL

    Is the vehicle equipped with a 4-inch display IPC? 

    Yes  GO to  AL4
    No  GO to  AL3

  4. AL3 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Close all doors and hood.

    • Clear all message center warnings by pressing the OK button for each warning present.

    • Monitor the door ajar RTT warning indicator.

    • Open the driver door.

    • Clear the message center popup warning.

    • Monitor the door ajar RTT warning indicator.

    Is the door ajar RTT warning indicator off with the door closed, and on with the door open? 

    Yes  GO to  AL4
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test A 

  5. AL4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Controller Area Network (CAN) Module Communications Network .
    No  GO to  AL5

  6. AL5 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the IPCDTC Chart.
    No  If equipped with the 4-inch display IPC, GO to  AL6 If not equipped with the 4-inch display IPC, DIAGNOSE all BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to the Master DTC Chart.

  7. AL6 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION) ACTIVE COMMAND

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Access the IPC and control the ALL_LAMPSPID

    • Command all lamps on and off while observing the indicator in question.

      • LH turn signal indicator
      • RH turn signal indicator
      • Front fog lamp indicator
      • High beam indicator
      • Rear fog lamp indicator (if equipped)

    Does the indicator in question illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE all BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to the Master DTC Chart.
    No  GO to  AL7

  8. AL7 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
