Tailgate Latch: Removal

Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- Open the tailgate.
- Remove the tailgate bolts and discard upper tailgate bolt.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- If equipped. Remove the bedliner tailgate cover.
Torque
: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
- If equipped. Remove the tailgate access panel bolts and the tailgate access panel.
Torque
: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
- If equipped. Remove the workspace tailgate access panel bolts and the workspace tailgate access panel.
Torque
: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)
- If equipped. Disconnect the electrical connector.

NOTE: When installing tailgate latch actuating rods, let them rest in the neutral position in the retaining clips prior to closing to ensure not preload the latch.
Remove the tailgate latch.
- Disconnect the tailgate latch actuating rod from the tailgate latch control assembly.
- Position the latch assembly toward the tailgate latch control assembly.
- Remove the tailgate latch.

Remove the tailgate latch actuating rod.
