Tailgate Latch: Removal

Open the tailgate.

Remove the tailgate bolts and discard upper tailgate bolt.
Torque

: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

If equipped. Remove the bedliner tailgate cover.
Torque

: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

If equipped. Remove the tailgate access panel bolts and the tailgate access panel.
Torque

: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

If equipped. Remove the workspace tailgate access panel bolts and the workspace tailgate access panel.
Torque

: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

If equipped. Disconnect the electrical connector.

NOTE: When installing tailgate latch actuating rods, let them rest in the neutral position in the retaining clips prior to closing to ensure not preload the latch.

Remove the tailgate latch.
1. Disconnect the tailgate latch actuating rod from the tailgate latch control assembly.
2. Position the latch assembly toward the tailgate latch control assembly.
3. Remove the tailgate latch.

Remove the tailgate latch actuating rod.
