Front Seat Backrest: Removal

WARNING: The following procedure describes critical repair steps required for correct seat component installation. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Do not place any objects between the seat components and the body of the vehicle, nor any objects within a joint internal to the seat structure. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the seat components and increases the risk of serious personal injury.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE: Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.
  1. Remove the front seat. Refer to: Front Seat .
  2. Detach the front seat electrical connector retainers and position the front seat wiring harnesses aside.

  3. Detach the front seat backrest cover straps and position the front seat backrest cover aside.

    1. Disconnect the side airbag harness electrical connector.
    2. Disconnect the front seat harness electrical connector.
    3. Detach the front seat wiring harness retainers.

  4. Detach the front seat backrest cover lower J-clip.

  5. NOTE: To install, gradually alternate the left and right front seat backrest cover zippers to prevent damage to the seat backrest cover.

    1. Unzip the front seat backrest cover.
    2. Lift the front seat backrest cover back flap.
    3. Detach the front seat backrest cover retainer from the front seat backrest frame.

  6. Remove the front seat side shield screws.

    Manual seats 

  7. If equipped with manual adjusting lumbar. Adjust the front seat manual lumbar to the fully relaxed position.

    1. Remove the retainer and the front seat recline adjusting handle.
    2. If equipped with manual adjusting lumbar. Remove the retainer and the front seat lumbar adjusting handle.

  8. NOTE: Front seat side shield without manual lumbar shown, front seat side shield with manual lumbar similar.

    Remove the front seat side shield.

    1. Firmly grasp the front seat side shield, lift up and out, separating the front seat side shield from the recliner bracket.
    2. From underneath, squeeze the retainers together and pull out on the front seat side shield.
    3. If equipped with manual adjusting lumbar. Pull the front seat side shield over the front seat manual lumbar adjuster.
    4. Slide the front seat side shield forward.

  9. NOTE: For installation, note the routing of the front seat manual lumbar cable through the front seat backrest cover opening.

    If equipped with manual adjusting lumbar. Position the front seat lumbar assembly cable away from the seat track.

    1. Detach the cable retainers from the front seat track.
    2. Detach the cable from the front seat lumbar actuator.
    3. Release the cable from the front seat lumbar actuator.

    Power seats 

  10. If equipped. Remove the retainer and the front seat recline handle.

  11. NOTE: Front seat side shield with power recline seat shown, all others similar.

    Remove the front seat side shield.

    1. Lift the rear of the front seat side shield and pull outward.
    2. Push the front seat side shield forward.
    3. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    1. Disconnect the front seat backrest heater mat electrical connector.
    2. Detach the front seat backrest wiring harness electrical connector retainer and position aside.
    3. Detach the front seat backrest heater mat wiring harness retainer.

    Multi-contour seat 

  12. NOTE: Note routing of the multi-contour control pump hoses for installation.

    Disconnect the front seat backrest driver seat SCMG (driver multi-contour seat module)/passenger seat SCMH (passenger multi-contour seat module) hose.

    1. Compress/squeeze the hose end fitting.
    2. Disconnect the hose.

  13. Disconnect the front seat backrest heater mat electrical connector.

    Max recline seats 

    1. Disconnect the front seat upper backrest heater mat electrical connector.
    2. Detach the front seat backrest heater mat wiring harness retainer.
    3. Disconnect the front seat backrest heater mat electrical connector.
    4. Detach the front seat backrest heater mat wiring harness retainer.

  14. Remove the front seat track cushion adjuster bolts.

    Torque

    : 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

    All seats 

  15. Remove the screws and the front seat recline cover.

  16. On both sides. Remove the bolts and the front seat backrest.

    Torque

    : 35 lb.ft (47.5 Nm)
