Symptom Chart -- NVH 

NOTE: NVH symptoms should be identified using the diagnostic tools that are available. For a list of these tools, an explanation of their uses and a glossary of common terms, refer to Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) . Since it is possible any one of multiple systems may be the cause of a symptom, it may be necessary to use a process of elimination type of diagnostic approach to pinpoint the responsible system.

Diagnostics in this article assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. REFER to: Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) .

Condition Actions
The front axle makes noise in 2H Possible Sources: Needle bearings between halfshafts and wheel hub GO to Pinpoint Test AB  Possible Sources: Tire or Fluid level GO to Pinpoint Test AC 
Transfer case whine -- noise at all ranges GO to Pinpoint Test AD 
Transfer case growl/rumble - noise at all ranges GO to Pinpoint Test AE 
Transfer case scraping/grating - noise at all ranges GO to Pinpoint Test U 
Transfer case howl/hum -- noise at all ranges or 4H only GO to Pinpoint Test AG
