Pinpoint Test G: Axle Howling Or Whine

- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
REFER to: Front Drive Axle and Differential .
Possible Sources
- Axle lubricant low
- Axle housing damage
- Damaged, worn or incorrect ring and pinion gear contact
- G1 CHECK THE LUBRICANT LEVEL
- Check the lubricant level.
Is the lubricant level low?
Yes Fill the axle to specification. REFER to: Differential Fluid Level Check . No GO to G2 - G2 INSPECT AXLE HOUSING FOR DAMAGE
- Inspect axle housing for damage.
Was any damage found?
Yes Install a new axle assembly as necessary. REFER to: Axle Assembly . No GO to G3 - G3 INSPECT RING AND PINION GEAR CONTACT
- Inspect ring and pinion gear contact.
Was any damage found?
Yes Refer to Contact Pattern in this procedure or REFER to: Differential Ring Gear and Pinion . No Inspect the vehicle for any other symptoms related to the axle.
