Rear Muffler: Removal

WARNING: When the engine and exhaust system are hot, they can cause severe burns or injury. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the exhaust system.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions .
  2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  3. Remove the bolts and the muffler isolator hanger.

    Torque

    : 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  4. NOTE: The isolator must be installed using the same bolt installation sequence as the removal process.

    1. Remove the bottom frame rail bolt.

      Torque

      : 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

    2. Remove the side frame rail bolt and the isolator.

      Torque

      : 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  5. Remove the isolator hanger bolt from the frame.

    Torque

    : 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  6. Loosen the clamp and rotate the muffler / SCR joint to release the locating tab. Remove the rear muffler assembly.

    Torque

    : 41 lb.ft (55 Nm)

  7. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Remove isolator hanger from the rear muffler.
