Fuel Tank: Removal

All vehicles 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. If equipped, remove the nuts and the skid plate.

    Torque

    : 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

  4. Release the clamp and position the fuel tank filler pipe hose aside.

    Torque

    : 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    Standard fuel tank 

  5. Disconnect the fuel feed and vapor tube quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

    Extended range fuel tank 

  6. Disconnect the fuel feed and vapor tube quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

    All vehicles 

  7. Using a powertrain lift, support the fuel tank.

    Use Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1585AE Powertrain Lift.

    • Remove the bolts.

      Torque

      : 35 lb.ft (47 Nm)

    • Partially lower the fuel tank.

  8. NOTE: Make sure the fuel tank is partially lowered before disconnecting the quick release coupling and electrical connectors.

    • Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  9. Remove the fuel tank.

  10. If the fuel tank is being replaced, remove the fuel pump and sender unit and drain the fuel tank using the fuel tanker. Refer to: Fuel Pump and Sender Unit .

    Use Special Service Tool: 292-00004 Fuel Tanker 100 GPM.
