Fuel Tank: Removal

NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation steps.
All vehicles
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- If equipped, remove the nuts and the skid plate.
Torque
: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)
- Release the clamp and position the fuel tank filler pipe hose aside.
Torque
: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)
Standard fuel tank
- Disconnect the fuel feed and vapor tube quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling
.
Extended range fuel tank
- Disconnect the fuel feed and vapor tube quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling
.
All vehicles
- Using a powertrain lift, support the fuel tank.
Use Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1585AE Powertrain Lift.

- Remove the bolts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (47 Nm)
- Partially lower the fuel tank.
- Remove the bolts.

NOTE: Make sure the fuel tank is partially lowered before disconnecting the quick release coupling and electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Remove the fuel tank.
- If the fuel tank is being replaced, remove the fuel pump and sender unit and drain the fuel tank using the fuel tanker. Refer to: Fuel Pump and Sender Unit .
Use Special Service Tool: 292-00004 Fuel Tanker 100 GPM.
